Hi,
I just signed a petition to Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who will be hosting the Copenhagen climate negotiations in December.

Hi,

I just signed a petition to Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who will be hosting the Copenhagen climate negotiations in December.

Many leaders are promising to help people living in extreme poverty adapt to the effects of climate change. This sounds great, but unfortunately, on closer examination, it turns out most of this money could be double counted – it’s money that has already been promised as development aid. This double counting is dangerous as it undermines both sustainable international development and a good global deal on clime change. It needs to be exposed and stopped.

As host of the Copenhagen talks, Mr. Rasmussen is one of the people best placed to make this happen.

Please join me in taking action here.

Together as ONE we can make a difference!

Thanks!

While this certainly is not a NEW concept the words still ring true and are just as relevant today. We all make a difference every day – by what we say, what we do, and by what we do NOT do.

Our actions and inactions continually affect the people and world around us, as well as our own lives. Consider the effects that are and have been created by the combined actions of hundreds, thousands, and millions of people world wide!

As the planet becomes “smaller and smaller” we are discovering, at quite a rapid pace, that some of our cumulative actions are having real negative consequences for the world we live in.

Not long ago, skeptics scoffed at the idea of millions getting together world wide to turn the lights off for one hour. But it was an amazing symbolic event that demonstrated how powerful we are and can be. It was more than that, however. That single act produced many positive effects, even if they could not be seen immediately with the naked eye.

Millions of individuals made a conscious decision to work together to create a POSITIVE EFFECT. Their individual actions gave evidence that people can unite, and can create change, make a difference, proving that – “If we all do a little, together we CAN accomplish a lot!”

This week our federal government released their multi-billion dollar deficit-creating bail-out budget aimed to stimulate the sagging economy.

At this point a few areas trouble me. The government has denied the legal right for women to take their employers to court if they are not getting paid as much as their male counterparts. No right to fight against pay discrimination based on gender. Additionally, most of the jobs being created are in infrastructure which means lots of jobs for men.

Another troublesome issue for me is that very little money has been allocated for the development of green technology. As far as I can see there is no better time than now to invest in green technology. Obama seems to get it, but not our Conservative government.

Unfortunately, the Green Party of Canada doesn’t have much political clout based on the way our electoral system is set up. Let’s see if they can do something about it.
